Abstract. The work considers the largest solid municipal waste landfill in the Republic of Bashkortostan, located near the city of Ufa, as a source of pollution. For which the amount of filtrate generated per year is estimated and the content of harmful substances in it is shown, as well as for surface waters at different distances from the object. The calculation carried out in the article based on the water balance, taking into account the climatic features at the location of the research object showed that the volume of the generated filtrate is approximately 369 thousand m3/year. To consider the impact of pollution from the landfill on the state of the Shugurovka River flowing near it, as well as some other water bodies, 6 samples were taken at different points.

As a result of the use of organoleptic, chemical and physicochemical methods of analysis, the color and smell of the samples were described, the presence and level of excess of the maximum permissible concentration for a number of substances in the composition of filtration and surface waters were established. An assessment of the possibility of biological treatment of landfill filtrate was carried out, and some changes in the composition of water in water bodies over time near the landfill were shown. For proposals to reduce the negative impact of landfill leachate, the volume of the reservoir required to collect it in a high-water year with subsequent cleaning was determined.

The work also presents the dynamics of the number of unauthorized landfills for the Russian Federation and the Republic of Bashkortostan based on statistical reporting by the Federal Service for Supervision of Natural Resources Rosprirodnadzor.

Keywords: leachate; landfill; waste; water pollution; reservoir; maximum permissible concentration
