Abstract. The article is devoted to the study of natural emergencies centered around forest fires in the Nizhnevartovsk region. The authors examine in detail the causes and consequences of such emergencies, the features of their development. The study reveals the relevance of the problem of long-term forest fires for the region, where a significant part of the population works in the oil industry and may be exposed to the danger of forest fires.
The purpose of the work is to create cartographic material on fire sites to ensure the safety of oil industry workers and preserve the forest ecosystem. To achieve this goal, various data were used, including digital maps, raster images, statistical data and information from the Internet.
Several methods used in the study are considered: cartographic, theoretical and the method of geographic information systems. Methods of cartography, theory and data analysis are used to create cartographic material on fire-hazardous areas, as well as to develop measures to prevent and counteract forest fires.
The results of the study include information on the areas of damaged forest territories, the causes of fires, extinguishing methods and the cost of damage. The work emphasizes the importance of cartography and GIS in managing natural disasters and offers practical solutions for public safety and preserving forest ecosystems. Using MapInfo Professional software, thematic maps of fire-hazardous areas in the Nizhnevartovsk region were created.
