Abstract. The article considers the issues of designing wire harnesses for the automotive industry. A car is a complex technical structure. An important element of this structure is the electrics, based on various vehicle configurations, affecting the wire harnesses. The performance of the car largely depends on the supply of power and control signals between the car devices through wires laid along a certain route of the body, formed into bundles. A significant number of car models, providing for various options, leads to the fact that it is necessary not only to consider the harness configurations, taking into account the various options inherent in the car, but also to calculate the knockdowns, which is very labor-intensive. The article considers in detail the basic business process of designing wire harnesses, analyzes its imperfections and proposes a promising process model to eliminate the identified deficiencies. The pre-project development and subsequent stages, including the preparation of design and technological documentation and the calculation of knockdowns, are considered. The current model is analyzed and recommendations are given for the formation of a promising model. Unlike the current model, the proposed model includes an automated module for optimizing the bundles. The proposed module allows taking into account possible configurations and options of cars for rational design of automotive electrics. It becomes possible to model the most advantageous locations of bundles taking into account the requirements for the reliability of its possible configurations in the director control mode in accordance with the vehicle configuration. Models of the business process of forming automotive wire harnesses are presented both in descriptive and graphical form.
