Abstract. The article considers the possibility of using the coastal reservoirs of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the cultivation of CO2-absorbing algae. If bio-cultivators based on natural reservoirs are created, it is possible to increase the efficiency of CO2 absorption by natural ecosystems at significantly lower costs compared to technological methods. In October 2024, studies were conducted on reservoirs of the coastal zone of the Caspian Sea in the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan, which differ in genesis and morphometry. It has been established that the lakes have a mixed sulfate-chloride-sodium water composition and salinity from 0,65 to 13,3 g/l. Lakes also contain significant amounts of nitrogen compounds, but few phosphates, which may be a limitation for the growth of algae biomass. According to the content of the main ions, lagoon lakes of the coastal zone of the Caspian Sea are the most suitable for cultivation of microalgae. Spatial analysis revealed 366 reservoirs potentially suitable for cultivation with a total area of 335 km2.
