Abstract. The development of the global industrial sector and the increase in the volume of its production leads to an increase in environmental pollution, as a result of which there is a need to develop and implement fundamentally new methods of wastewater treatment at production facilities. Prerequisites for the introduction of new cleaning methods are environmental friendliness and their economic benefits. It is known that these criteria are most fully met by microbiological treatment methods (based on the ability of microorganisms to use inorganic and organic substances found in the runoff as nutrient substrates). The diversity of microorganisms capable of effectively removing many pollutants from the environment determines the emergence of a colossal number of scientific studies on the topic of microbiological purification. The dependence of these processes on many factors, representing a large volume of incoming heterogeneous information, complicates research tasks, resulting in the problem of structuring, storing and processing impressive volumes of data, which does not lose its relevance today. The creation of an information system for microbiological water purification can lead to an effective solution to the problem of accumulating and structuring large volumes of data on this topic. In the current work, the authors have solved the primary task of developing an information system for microbiological purification — an analysis of the subject area of microbiological purification has been carried out and its description has been formed (key entities have been identified). A classification scheme for elements of the subject area has been developed using the proposed unique attributes — characteristics of each element. Based on the attributes, relationships between entities were built in order to improve the efficiency of their functioning, which contributes to the further development of an information system for microbiological purification.
