Abstract. The increasing amount of municipal solid waste is a consequence of the rapid development of mankind, and methods of burial and storage of waste are no longer not only inefficient, but also do more harm than good. If in the future there are no trends to improve the existing situation, the landfills will be filled, and the accompanying negative impact that they have on the environment will only grow. In the absence of widespread availability of appropriate protection technologies, the entire natural environment is exposed to pollutants. One of the reasons for this situation is the ecological illiteracy of the population and the lack of a strong state ecological policy; there are many unauthorized dumps in the country. As a result, huge areas of land, which could be used for more useful purposes, accumulate waste and are depleted.

This article deals with the reclamation of a «small» landfill in the village of Alikovo. The gross volume of the released biogas was calculated and a brief description of the technical and biological stages — the main stages of reclamation and the further post-reclamation existence of the landfill was presented, the reasons for choosing this particular reclamation process were explained. The reclamation technology proposed by the authors will ensure the restoration of land for the further creation of recreational zones.

By studying and analysing various sources, the author concluded that the problem of solid municipal waste, and specifically the landfills to which it is sent for burial, is one of the most important problems at the moment, both in Chuvashia and in the whole of Russia.
