Abstract. The article examines the investment attractiveness of the oil sector. The paper notes that an important factor influencing the inflow of investments is profit and profitability from the sale of products. Based on the analysis, the author concluded that Rosneft is the leader in capitalization, as well as in the volume of dividends paid, which makes it the most attractive for investors. The author is convinced that since the oil sector is mainly a budget-filling indicator for our country, the role of taxation for this industry is an important aspect. For a clearer idea of how attractive the oil sector is, the author considered such an investment project as the opening of a gas station. The paper focuses on the fact that oil companies generate their main income from wholesale sales, not retail, so some companies are even thinking about selling their own gas stations. The author emphasizes that this sector is still attractive for independent gas stations, especially after statements that oil companies do not plan to develop in this direction. Within the framework of this study, calculations of the cost of building a gas station, as well as the cost of employees and the expected sale of goods and possible revenues of the project are presented. According to economic theory, an investor strives to get the maximum return on his investments while minimizing risk, that is, the profit maximization factor is important. The article formulated a number of recommendations to increase the investment attractiveness of the oil sector.
Keywords: oil sector; oil and gas industry; investment attractiveness; investments; global economy; economic efficiency; profit maximization; economic development
