This study is devoted to a comprehensive analysis of the impact of international economic sanctions on the economy and economic security system of the Russian Federation in the period 2022–2025, which represents a qualitatively new stage of sanctions confrontation. The study demonstrates that current sanctions against Russia represent a systemic attempt at economic isolation, covering the financial system, technology sector, energy, transport and trade, with the total number of restrictions exceeding 24 thousand measures as of mid-2025. Analysis of macroeconomic indicators shows contradictory results of the sanctions impact: despite the projected long-term GDP losses of 7,1–14,2 %, the Russian economy demonstrated resilience with GDP growth of 4,3 % in 2024 and reaching a historical maximum of 201 trillion rubles. Structural analysis shows a differentiated impact of sanctions by industry: the automotive industry and woodworking suffered the greatest losses (over 15 % of the projected level), while individual sectors demonstrated growth due to the effects of import substitution and restructuring of production chains. The practical significance of the work is determined by the possibility of using the obtained results to improve the strategy of ensuring the economic security of the state in the face of external restrictions and to develop effective mechanisms to counter sanctions pressure. Long-term prospects for the development of the Russian economy under sanctions are associated with the need to accelerate structural transformations, increase technological independence and form a new architecture of international economic cooperation.

Keywords: economic sanctions; economic security; Russian economy; import substitution; technological sovereignty; adaptation mechanisms; foreign economic relations; structural transformations; secondary sanctions

Anichkina Olga Aleksandrovna Moscow State University of Technology and Management named after K.G.
