Transport is undoubtedly the backbone of any country\u2019s economy. Transport systems allow goods and people to travel efficiently over any distance. In this context, the improvement of transport services, construction and road management is particularly important. Modern information technologies, including geographic information systems, play a prominent role in this task. These computer systems are widely used for road management, route planning, environmental assessment, construction management and transport safety. The purpose of the study \u2014 to consider the features and benefits of using geo-information technologies to improve road management. Pay special attention to the characteristics of geographic information systems, their capabilities and fields of application in the transport industry. Objects and methods. The subjects of research are geoinformation technologies intended for road management. Results. The study presents an algorithm for the application of geographic information systems throughout the entire life cycle of a road. The problems associated with the creation of a single information space for the management of the main routes and the full implementation of geographical information systems are also outlined. Among the problems highlighted are: choice of optimal data model, lack of vertical and horizontal communication at all levels of information systems, problem of collection and updating of information, problem of conversion of data from two-dimensional format to three-dimensional. Conclusions.
