Better use of creativity, the proper management of new ideas, the use of appropriate tools and economic thinking will lead the company to success and ensure high revenues. Each organization to some extent is an innovative organization. However, it is time to innovate more efficiently and more quickly. This acceleration requires formalization and optimization of the innovation process, understanding its essence. The article presents a comparative analysis and evaluation of the scientific interpretation of the concept of &#171;investment project&#187;. The definitions offered by leading Russian and foreign scientists are given, and the conclusion is drawn that they either give the most General interpretation, or, on the contrary, very concretize it. The article highlights some of the discussion characteristics of the concept of &#171;project&#187;, for example, one-time and complexity of the structure, which requires specification of the definition, depending on the sphere in which they are used. The article substantiates the fact that all projects, regardless of the type, require a certain investment by the investor, so the concept of &#171;investment&#187; is considered. The emphasis is made on the fact that the changes in the legislation of Russia now allow also to call the investor the company that carries out the project at its own expense.
