Abstract. The article considers some aspects of formation and modern tendencies for development of packing branch, and also a condition and forecasts of development of the market of waste from packing of consumer goods are considered.

It is revealed that the modern packaging industry is a fairly new phenomenon for Russia. It is shown that the market of packaging for consumer goods depends on the production of the products that require packaging and grows with it. In the future, further growth in the production of all types of packaging materials for domestic products is expected.

It is shown that until recently the system researches of the market and composition of solid municipal waste (SMW) in Russia were not carried out. Accordingly, there are practically no data on the state and forecasts of the development of the market of wastes from the packaging of consumer goods. The available sources of statistical information are asymmetric and represent micro-surveys carried out by operators and associations for individual regions at different times. Such a range of opinions may be explained by insufficient representativeness of samples, but at the same time, it allows tracking the dynamics of changes in certain segments of the market of SMW. In the future, it is expected to develop the Russian market of SMW on the basis of the best available technologies of environmental production and waste processing.

An expert survey was conducted in six enterprises (four retail chains and two producers of non-food consumer goods) on the problems stated in the article. The results of the expert question regarding: 1) the number of transport packaging passing through the company within a month, PCs.; 2) the number of commercial packaging sold through the company within a month, PCs.; 3) what kind of recycling operations packaging, experts consider the most optimal; 4) knowledge by respondents of the enterprises processing packing and about cooperation with such enterprises.
