Abstract. At present, issues related to ensuring environmental safety and maintaining hygiene of the urban environment are given great importance. The problems of formation and disposal of production and consumption waste are quite acute. As the population of the planet increases every year, the consumption of various materials increases and the amount of waste generated increases. Throughout its history, mankind has been learning and exploring the world around us. As a result of this activity, tobacco smoking appeared. The most common type of waste on the planet are cigarette filters. Cigarette butts account for 20–30 % of all pollutants in water bodies. Chemical compounds contained in cigarette filters are mortally dangerous for marine and aquatic life. The presence of cigarette butts in the soil negatively affects the vegetative system of plants, slowing down growth and development. Every year, 600 million trees are cut down from approximately 200 thousand hectares of land for tobacco production. The relevance of the research topic and the degree of its scientific development provide grounds for formulating the scientific problem as the need to develop containers for collecting cigarette butts, which will not only contribute to improving the sanitary and epidemiological situation in the city, but will also improve the environmental culture and worldview of its residents. In the work, the authors used the methods of modeling and theoretical analysis. They developed garbage containers for collecting cigarette butts. The article contains calculations to determine the volume of compartments in order to determine the required number of cigarette filters that can be placed in the bin. The authors also developed a memo about the harm of cigarette filters to the environment, placed on the trash can and acting as a source of social and environmental information on informing the population about the harm of cigarette filters.
