Abstract. Engineering and environmental surveys in oil and gas fields serve as a basis for the development of a program of geoecological monitoring and environmental impact assessment for specific fields, and can also serve as a basis for the development of environmental protection measures.

Currently, the production of hydrocarbons has a great impact on the environmental condition of the Northern landscapes, which are very susceptible to human impact.

The article describes the features of the impact of oil and gas production on the landscape, the biosphere and the hydrosphere on the example of Western Siberia.

Despite the severity of this problem, the ecological state is practically not covered in the media and training courses of universities and schools. Time is given to oil and gas production only from the point of view of industries, but the environmental aspect is «bypassed». As a result, students learn only about the richness of the resource base of our country, but do not get an understanding of the consequences for the environment is their production. To improve environmental literacy of students, it is proposed to introduce methodological recommendations for the introduction of the theme of environmental consequences of hydrocarbon production in the case of Western Siberia, which is the main oil and gas producing region of our country.

Keywords: ecological state; the oil and gas industry; West Siberia; oil and gas field construction; landshavtom; biosphere; hydrosphere; the environmental consequences of hydrocarbon production; environmental literacy of students; environmental protection
