Abstract. The article presents some results of an analysis of northern urban planning taking into account natural and climatic factors. It has been determined that the planning and development of the residential zone of the northern city requires mandatory consideration of the terrain, wind conditions, snow drifts, features of the formation of vegetation cover and other factors.
To identify the features of urban planning activities in the modern conditions of the Far North and areas equivalent to them, the authors analyzed the natural and climatic factors that determine the planning and development of the territory of the city of Nizhnevartovsk, which is necessary for the rational management of the development of the settlement.
Using geoinformation mapping, based on remote sensing data (SAS Planet), the authors analyzed the features of the development of the residential area of the city of Nizhnevartovsk, taking into account the main natural and climatic parameters.
In the course of studying the urban planning conditions of the residential zone of the city of Nizhnevartovsk, the authors revealed that the development and engineering preparation of the territory fully takes into account the terrain, wind conditions, and snow drifts. An analysis of the layout and development of buildings in residential microdistricts of the city showed that on the territory of Nizhnevartovsk, methods of protection against snow drifts are used, which help to achieve one of the main components of northern urban planning — wind regulation by aerodynamic groups of buildings, when, with the help of optimal planning, through ventilation with snow removal is formed outside the residential area. In addition, the need for intensive landscaping of new residential neighborhoods of the city has been identified.
Taking into account the results of urban planning assessment allows us to improve the state of urban planning use of built-up residential areas. Urban planning analysis of the territory of a northern city is important for territorial planning decisions and management of the development of populated areas.
