Abstract. This scientific work is devoted to the study of global problems of our time. The transition to the concept of sustainable development is one of the urgent tasks facing the entire world community. Following the concept of sustainable development, and especially its environmental aspects, is a strategic necessity in the context of modern global problems. The authors also considered in detail the following key areas: the raw material problem of transition to the concept of sustainable development, global environmental problems and their main forms of manifestation, demographic challenges to sustainable development, the food problem in the context of the concept of sustainable development. Based on the analysis, the authors have identified the key environmental problems of our time: the depletion of the planet’s natural resources, environmental pollution and climate change. The fight against the identified problem areas is necessary, since environmental problems are relevant for all representatives of the world community, while in the process of human activity they only worsen. In addition, following the concept of sustainable development implies the implementation of state environmental regulation, as a result of which business conditions become more complex, and the private sector is forced to adapt to new realities. For sustainable development, it is necessary that the growth rate of food production be greater or at least equal to the growth rate of the population, however, due to existing problems, in particular related to demographic, food and environmental crisis phenomena, an imbalance has been formed between the components under consideration. In the final part, the authors formulate conclusions regarding the impact of environmental problems of our time on the possibility of transition to the concept of sustainable development, and also put forward an assumption: in order to transition to the concept of sustainable development, it is necessary to minimize the impact of negative factors that worsen the environmental situation.
