Abstract. Qualitative assessment of interregional differences in transport conditions for resource development in eastern Russia at the beginning of the 21st century has been carried out. In the north of eastern Russia, transport conditions are still much less favorable than in the south, primarily due to the lack of public railways and low density of automobile roads. In the northern regions in the post-Soviet period, it turned out to be beneficial to develop only the most profitable export mineral resources of high quality and large quantities, such as oil and gas production, valuable types of coal, and ore gold. The development of less profitable resources was either suspended or significantly reduced. In the south of eastern Russia, in more favourable transport and geographical conditions, both high-, medium- and low-income types of resources were developed during the same period, as well as tourism was actively developing. The implementation of plans for the development of land transport in the north of eastern Russia contributes to the development of medium- and low-income resource industries there. This will reduce the socio-economic imbalance between the north and south of the macroregion.
