Abstract. One of the urgent tasks of modern urban planning and an important factor in ensuring comfortable and favorable living conditions for the population is the improvement of courtyard areas. However, the improvement of many residential areas does not comply with current regulatory documents, does not take into account the needs and wishes of residents of houses, including low-mobility groups of the population. The main problems inherent in courtyard areas are the lack of clear boundaries between residential and citywide areas, chaotic parking, lack of lighting, lack of infrastructure for various user groups, lack of dog walking areas, and climatic discomfort. All this affects the state of the urban environment and, as a result, the level and quality of life of people. The relevance of the research topic and the degree of its scientific development provide the basis for the formulation of a scientific problem as the need to develop basic principles for landscaping courtyards, taking into account their morphotype. In the work, the authors used a socio-project approach, theoretical and methodological analysis, as well as concepts and theories of scientists on the issue under consideration. The empirical basis of the study was the analysis of regulatory documents, Internet resources, literary sources and periodical information. The authors have carried out a theoretical substantiation of the process of formation of courtyard territories. The article analyzes the main problems of courtyard territories and their users. The authors also developed six principles of yard landscaping in accordance with the morphotype: the principle of equivalence, the principle of functional zoning, the principle of seasonality, the principle of accessibility, the principle of ownership and the principle of greening.

Keywords: urban environment; ecologization; courtyard area; landscaping; landscaping; safety; comfortable conditions; morphotype
