Abstract. In engineering practice, laser processing systems operating in pulse generation modes with durations of 0,1–6 ms are often used to perform heating and melting operations without damaging the surface. However, practical experience with these systems demonstrates lower energy efficiency compared to laser cutting, limiting the widespread use of laser hardening and welding processes. One reason for this reduced energy efficiency is the high reflectivity of metal surfaces, which leads to a decrease in the thermal efficiency of the laser heating process due to a reduced proportion of laser radiation absorbed by the treated surface. The reflectivity of metal depends nonlinearly on surface temperature and changes during heating with a laser pulse. This makes it important to increase the thermal efficiency of pulsed laser metalworking without damaging the surface by using an additional source that preheats the surface to melting temperature. In the article, on the example of the laser technological complex of the type «Kwant-15», generating at a wavelength of 1,064 μm pulses of 3 ms duration with an energy of 6 J, the simulation of the process of laser processing without destruction of the surface for a metal plate, 1 mm thick, is performed. According to the results of modeling in the Mathcad software package, taking into account the dependence of the absorption coefficient of the surface on its temperature, the possibility of increasing the thermal efficiency of the technological operation of laser processing without destruction of the surface is considered. It has been shown that the use of concomitant heating to intensify the laser welding process is not energetically feasible, while the intensification of the heat treatment process allows for an increase in thermal efficiency of up to 25 % compared to the thermal efficiency of traditional laser processing.
