Abstract. The presented study reveals the fundamental aspects of the transformation of the theoretical and methodological foundations of the regional economy through the prism of the spatial approach. The authors carry out a deep analysis of the evolution of scientific concepts from classical standard theories to modern interdisciplinary paradigms, demonstrating qualitative changes in the understanding of the nature of regional development. The work is based on the complex integration of the achievements of institutional theory, economic sociology and phenomenological analysis, which allows us to present a region as a multidimensional socio-economic entity. The authors convincingly substantiate the need to overcome the traditional structural-functional approach in favor of dynamic models based on the processes of interaction between economic agents and goal-setting under uncertainty. Of particular scientific value is the conceptualization of the region through the categories of «phenomenological fields» — specialized areas of concentration of key mechanisms and resources. The study analyzes in detail the financial, technological and personnel fields as fundamental components of the regional economic space, identifying their interrelations and mechanisms of mutual influence on the trajectories of territorial development. The methodological novelty of the work lies in the synthesis of spatial categories with institutional analysis, which opens up prospects for rethinking basic economic concepts. The authors critically examine the limitations of the «economic man» model and the theory of rational choice, proposing alternative approaches that take into account cultural, symbolic and behavioral factors in decision-making processes. The practical significance of the work is determined by the development of new principles of strategic management of regional development based on flexibility and adaptability instead of strict adherence to predetermined goals. The authors substantiate the need to take into account social reflection, regulatory guidelines and the institutional environment when forming regional policy. The study makes a significant contribution to the expansion of the methodological tools of regional studies due to conceptual borrowings from related sciences, emphasizing the primary importance of improving the quality of life of the population as the main criterion for the effectiveness of regional policy.
