Abstract. When designing the concepts of new neighborhoods, districts, cities and reconstruction of existing construction sites, one of the main tasks before the sphere of urban planning is the formation of a comfortable urban environment for living, leisure and work of the population. In the conditions of dense building with high-rise and multi-storey buildings, the most rational and innovative solution to improve the environmental friendliness of the urban environment is the introduction of the principles of sustainable development with energy-saving technologies, natural building materials and innovative designs. This article considers the status, trends and problems of development of wooden structures on the example of cross-laminated wood panels that help to reduce the negative impact of the construction sector on the environment in urban areas and dense development. The main reasons for the increased interest in the construction of multi-family wooden houses are indicated. The characteristics and unique properties of both the wood itself and the panels are described. The advantages offered by the innovative system of «green» construction with the use of cross-laminated wood panels are described. The authors analyze the competitiveness of laminated wood panels compared to traditional building materials such as concrete, stone and metal. The article describes the experience of implementation of innovative and sustainable building systems in foreign countries, the prospects and problems of further development of wooden house-building in the Russian construction industry, and also the priorities and methods of domestic manufacturers of laminated panels which will allow to provide additional volumes of consumption of laminated wood and mass construction of residential complexes. Further directions of research problems in the development of wooden structures are formulated.
