Abstract. The presented scientific work reveals the fundamental problem of the transformation of interpersonal communications in the student environment under the influence of total digitalization of the educational space. The team of authors, uniting specialists in the field of pedagogy and technical sciences from leading Moscow universities, undertakes a comprehensive study of the mechanisms of the impact of modern gadgets on the quality of social interaction of young people and offers innovative approaches to harmonizing virtual and face-to-face communication in the academic environment. The methodological basis of the study is based on large-scale empirical material obtained as a result of long-term monitoring of student groups of the Yegoryevsk Technological Institute and the Moscow State University of Technology and Management named after K.G. Razumovsky. The use of sociological methods, including questionnaires, in-depth interviews and psychological testing, allowed the authors to identify key trends in changing communication patterns of modern students and determine the factors influencing the formation of a psychological climate in study groups. The theoretical significance of the work lies in the conceptualization of the phenomenon of the digital divide in interpersonal communication of students. The authors convincingly demonstrate the paradoxical nature of the situation when technologies originally created to expand communication capabilities become a barrier to the development of emotional intelligence, empathy and non-verbal communication skills. The study reveals the mechanisms of formation of digital addiction and its negative impact on the processes of social adaptation of first-year students, building friendships and creating close-knit study groups. The practical value of the study is manifested in the development of a comprehensive program for optimizing social interaction in the student environment. The model proposed by the authors includes the creation of specialized spaces for live communication, the introduction of a mentoring system for senior students, the organization of creative master classes, discussion clubs and sports events. Particular attention is paid to the formation of a conscious approach to the use of digital devices through structuring time and alternating periods of online activity with direct interaction. The results of testing the proposed measures indicate their high efficiency in improving the quality of communication, improving the psychological climate in groups and developing professionally significant social competencies of future specialists.
